Other agency clients include the United Soybean Board, ESB Bank, Bank of Hannibal, and Northarvest Bean Growers Association.# # #June 14, 2010Jefferson City residents give high scores to public safety and are looking toward the future in final Citizen Survey resultsJefferson City, Mo. − Final results of the Citizen Survey are in and highlights show thatJefferson City residents have high confidence in public safety and are interested in economicdevelopment.Communiqué, the research and public relations firm hired by the City of Jefferson to conduct the Citizen Survey, will present detailed information from the survey at 5:30 p.m. today at a City Council work session in the Boone-Bancroft Room at City Hall. The survey was mailed in April to 2,000 residents randomly selected from a list of more than 19,000 registered active Jefferson City voters. The largest number of respondents were ages 46 to 66. More than 80 percent have lived in the city for more than 10 years.Highlights from the Citizen Survey final results include:Nearly 80 percent of those surveyed believe Jefferson City is "a great place to live, work and raise a family" and consider the quality of life as "very good. "Nearly 90 percent of those surveyed indicated they are satisfied or very satisfied with fire protection. Police protection followed closely with more than 74 percent. Nearly 90 percent of respondents believe the city should work to encourage industry and business to relocate to Jefferson City.Sixty-three percent of respondents believe parts of the Missouri State Penitentiary should be developed to attract tourists to Jefferson City. Nearly two-thirds agreed or strongly agreed that Jefferson City should continue efforts to encourage rehabilitation of homes and buildings in the older parts of the city, an area now designated as "Old Town." More than 80 percent of respondents consider repair and maintenance of roads, bridges, sidewalks and storm water drainage a high priority.Mayor John Landwehr said the Citizen Survey results will serve a valuable role as the city council and staff work toward the continuing development of the city."The information we learn from the survey will also allow us to identify some of the areas we may need to work on such as improving communication on some of our long-range projects,enhancing specific city services or finding ways to attract new businesses to the city," he said.
